Privacy Policy

Dayportrait is an iOS app made by Alex in Vancouver. One person, no investors, no ads, no growth team. This page explains exactly what the app records, where it goes, and what it never asks for.

Effective 2 September 2026

The short version

• No accounts. There is no sign-in and no profile, ever.
• No server of ours. Dayportrait has no backend. Nothing you write is transmitted to us, because there is nowhere for it to go.
• No analytics. No Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Google Analytics, Facebook SDK or any other measurement library. The app ships with no third-party SDKs of any kind.
• No advertising identifiers. The app does not request IDFA and shows no advertising.
• Nothing is collected. The app's privacy manifest declares an empty set of collected data types, which is the same thing said in Apple's own format.

What the app stores, on your device

Everything Dayportrait knows is written to your iPhone's local storage and stays there:

• Your entries: which activity, which day, the start and end of the stretch, and an optional note.
• The optional facets you attach to an entry — who it was with, where you were, what you were watching, which project it belonged to.
• The time zone an entry was written against, when one was recorded. It is used to draw a travelling day honestly and for nothing else.
• Your own category list: the areas and activities you keep, rename or delete.
• Your settings, and whether you have Dayportrait Pro.

What the app never asks for

Dayportrait does not request, receive or store any of the following:

• Your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
• Health data — no sleep, steps, heart rate or workouts. The app has no HealthKit entitlement and cannot read any of it, including the sleep it asks you to log.
• Your calendar. Dayportrait does not read events, and cannot prefill your day from them.
• Screen time, app usage, or which other apps are on your phone.
• Your name, email address, age, gender or any identifier.
• Your device ID, advertising ID or any fingerprintable hardware detail.

The two system APIs the app declares

Apple requires apps to declare a reason for certain APIs even when nothing is collected. Dayportrait declares two, and this is what they are for:

• User defaults — your settings, and the one-shot flags that stop a first-run screen from appearing twice. Reasons CA92.1 and 1C8F.1: app functionality, on this device only.
• File timestamps — reading and writing the app's own local database. Reason C617.1.

iCloud

Dayportrait does not sync today: the current build keeps your ledger in one place, on the device that wrote it. When syncing arrives it will use your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit, in a private database only you can read — we will not be able to see it, and it will still never reach a server of ours. This page will say so, with a new effective date, before that ships.

Purchases

Dayportrait Pro is sold through Apple. Payment, receipts and refunds are handled entirely by the App Store; we never see your payment details. The app asks Apple whether the purchase is active and stores that one answer locally.

Diagnostics

Apple's standard anonymous crash and performance reports. If you have turned on Share with App Developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple aggregates them on your device and shares them with us through App Store Connect — no personal identifiers, nothing you wrote. The app also keeps its own copy of the latest report on your device; it never uploads it.

If you email us from the app, the message opens with your app version, device model, iOS version, time zone and the number of records you have — never the contents of any record — and you see all of it before you send it. Nothing is sent otherwise.

Children

Dayportrait is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and any change that affects what the app records will ship together with the version that makes it true.
